The most important thing about learning piano is feeling good while we’re doing it. Many people tell me they gave up the piano earlier in life due to draconian teaching methods or dry and irrelevant curriculums. I firmly believe that teaching in the 21st century requires a style adapted to our times – a hybrid of traditional and contemporary methods and study materials. An approach that’s explored through mutual respect, relevance and individual needs. Some of my students wish to study the piano classics, others want to learn about improvisation and how best to express the music they hear in their heads. I can help with both and show you how to connect the two.

Before I toured the world with multiple Grammy-winning artists and composed music for TV and feature films, I studied violin, piano and composition at the Royal College of Music and the London College of Music under Peter Turton, William Lloyd Weber (father of Andrew and Julian), John McCabe and Susan Bradshaw. I hold an Associate’s diploma from the London College of Music. Added to this are priceless lessons learnt ‘on the job’ playing with some of the world’s foremost master musicians, recording and performing artists, which gives me a unique and current perspective on teaching and learning.

My piano lessons in Hastings cover all styles of music in depth. All ABRSM, LCM and Trinity exam syllabuses, Pop Piano, Jazz Piano, R & B piano, Soul/Funk Piano, Gospel Piano, EDM etc. I believe strongly in combining traditional academic methods with more contemporary disciplines. Elements like improvisation, groove, rhythmic awareness, aural and recognition skills combine with technical ability, manual dexterity (speed and accuracy), sight reading (in some cases) and harmony (classical and jazz). IMHO all of these are essential to ensure the success of today’s musicians in an ever-evolving world. All standards catered for – from beginners to advanced and post-grad.
